Philippians: Chapter 1

ree

Dear reader,

Most of the time we are fully aware of how to start things - a new job, a new hobby or even writing a new blog, but sometimes it’s hard to know how we’ll finish. We ask ourselves,

"When will I finish? Will I finish well?

Honestly, being in this state of the unknown can be so overwhelming and this is when fear creeps in. For example, before the pandemic, I'm sure we all had plans. I know I did! All of a sudden it all got cancelled, paused, forgotten, thrown out the window. You know that feeling of knowing exactly what God has told you to do and everything is going according to that plan and moving in the right direction, then one thing happens that just makes you feel stuck and I honestly felt that! So as I read Philippians Chapter 1 (a few times!), one specific verse stood out to me and lit a fire in me - in verse 6, Paul declares over the Philippians,

"I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus."

This is such a powerful declaration that felt so personal, that the work God has started in me, in us - that fire inside of us to do more, will be completed and not just for now but it's a declaration that we should continuously proclaim over our lives. I honestly believe that when we declare Paul's words over our lives, we start to fix our eyes on Him, looking to God for guidance for everything and understanding that even in the midst of so much change, the Maker of the Earth is still the same!

'Work' can also be internal. Even a change can distract us from the internal work that God is doing in us (I know your mind went to that 'work' which is different for everyone). So I encourage you to also declare verse 6 over your lives!

My Prayer:

Thank you Lord for your word through Paul. I pray for peace for those who fill stuck wondering what is next, and for those who are struggling with everything being so different, Lord, I pray you will encounter them personally to know that they are not alone, that you have been with them from the start and that you will be with them forever.

Yours Sincerely,

Damilola.
