My 4c Jet Black Afro

ree

Dear reader,

I'd describe my hair as thick, luscious and coily.

The topic of hair is SO dynamic! There are so many combinations - from thick and straight, to thin and curly, and then some more combinations that probably only a few have heard of, so I can only speak from my experience with my 4c jet black afro.

For those of you wondering how I know my curl type, There are many quizzes available online but I used the quiz on the naturally curly website. It takes two minutes to complete and they are pretty easy questions to answer. However, I went out seeking for just my curl type but this quiz also gave me some information on your curl pattern, porosity, density, width and even some tips/products to use on your hair, which I love! So get ready to for a whole profile on your hair.

Here's my result:

Looking at my result, it makes perfect sense because my hair used to be so difficult to comb through. This is simply because the products I used did not match my hair texture and knowing more information about my hair has been helpful to know and understand why certain products work and don't work in my hair. For example, my hair loves coconut oil and now I know it's because it has a low porosity, which means products tend to sit on the surface of my hair but my hair can absorb rich moisturisers like coconut oil. However, because my hair is so dense, some hair gels don't work at all, so I need extra hold gels that must be applied in layers on my hair for them to work.

Before taking the hair quiz and finding out this information about my hair, I decided to experiment with different shampoos and conditioners, just to organically know what my hair likes. Currently, I am using these two Maui Moisture products and yes I purposely chose products from two different collections - one for moisture and the other to restore. They were actually on sale at Boots for £5.99 each and for these products, this price is not bad, plus I got points on my advantage card so it was definitely worth it. Since experimenting with different hair products, I look forward to wash day! Some of you can probably relate to this, but wash day can be long and tiring, especially for us 4c queens but the results from these products make it worth it and honestly a peng scent also goes a long way!

P.S. I encourage you to find out your hair texture because like me, there might be something you could do to improve your hair care routine.

Yours Sincerely,

Damilola.
